Achieving Equitable Care in Gynecologic Cancers: Healthcare Professional Insights for Improving Care

Despite recent advances in the field of gynecologic oncology care, underrepresented racial and ethnic minority patients continue to disproportionally face barriers to optimal and equitable care delivery. Moreover, data suggest that many healthcare professionals (HCPs) caring for patients with gynecologic cancers are unaware of the growing disparities in their field. Recognition, raising awareness, and addressing factors contributing to inequities in gynecologic cancer care are important steps for improving outcomes for all patients with gynecologic cancers without regard to race or socioeconomic status.

In this module, Maria Avila-Wallace, NP, and Eva Y. Pan, PharmD, BCOP, identify current challenges in equitable care delivery and share their clinical experience and insight on how to overcome them.

Clinical Care Options plans to measure the educational impact of this activity. A few questions will be asked twice: Once at the beginning of the activity and then once again after the discussion that informs the best choice. Your responses will be aggregated for analysis, and your specific responses will not be shared.

Before continuing with this educational activity, please take a moment to answer the following questions.

If you are a healthcare professional providing patient care, how many patients with gynecologic cancers do you see in a typical month?

Which of the following is an important risk factor contributing to late-stage diagnosis of cervical cancer and could inform patient eligibility for ongoing trials of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for cervical cancer?
