Introduction

In this focused activity, Brian Koffman, MDCM (retired), MS Ed; Nichole Fisher, RN, BSN; and Anthony Perissinotti, PharmD, BCOP, review common issues of concern for patients who have been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and discuss best practices in patient education.

Clinical Care Options plans to measure the educational impact of this activity, and some questions in this activity will be asked twice: once prior to the discussion that informs the best choice and then again after that specific discussion. Your responses will be aggregated for analysis, but your specific responses will not be shared.

Before continuing with this educational activity, please take a moment to answer the following question.

A 65-year-old man is diagnosed with CLL at another institution and requires treatment. He is found to have del(17p) CLL. He received a treatment recommendation at his original institution but asks you for a second opinion.

Which of the following treatment options would you consider suboptimal for this patient?
